mystery!

create an old fashioned research paper. This year’s theme is, “The Individual
through History.” SA HERO is the only home school organization that sponsors
the “school level “competition.” Come learn more about this exciting program.
I will also be discussing the various history activities available to your
student through Jr. Historians.

variety of levels. Your child does not need to be a math wiz to get involved in
robotics. Come learn the ins and outs of robotics. It is my opinion that all
children should have some exposure to robotics given that we live in a high tech
world.

Under the Sea with Clay
(grades K-4)
Dive under the sea with clay! Students will discuss the life that lives
under the ocean and will create creatures from the deep using basic clay
techniques presented by the artist. Science terms and ocean life will be
stressed Jurassic Plaque (grades K-5)
Your students will learn about the time when dinosaurs ruled the earth, their
environment, their shapes and why they were shaped that way, and why they became
extinct. Students will make a clay tile relief in the shape of their favorite
dinosaur. Science terms will be discussed and your students will be able to take
their work home.
Clay Dragons (grades 3-5)
Learn about the myths and legends of dragons from Europe, including the ones
encountered by knights like St George (aggressive, and smokers, all of them!)
and Asia (benign, and non-smokers), and then construct a clay dragon to keep.
Students will enjoy this class especially if they are studying medieval times
and castles and crusades, or if they are learning about Asian New Year, China,
or dragons in literature. Nature Prints (grades 1-5)
A discussion of nature and nature related subjects, such as the life cycle of a
butterfly, their markings, etc. can bring a nature print to life. Using paper

can be made. Dancing Flip Books (grades K-5)
In the biography of dancer, choreographer Alvin Ailey by Andrea Davis Pinkney,
J. Brian Pinkney captures the fluid graceful movements of the dancer with his
illustrations. What if these movements were put together? What would they look
like? Many dances have been captured on film. In this workshop your budding film
makers will create their own dance movie flip books.
It's a Relief! (grades K-5)
In the tradition of the ancient Greek and Romans, but in a more relaxed, modern
style, your students will learn the art of relief work on clay. Using sand clay
and after viewing several samples of relief work, students will be able to
create their own interior or exterior stone-like motif or choose something from
their current class studies. Mexican Yarn Painting (grades K-5)
Although yarn painting is a relatively new art for the Huichol Indians of
Mexico, they were adapted from an old tradition called Nierika. The Nierika
