National History Day (NHD) is open to students in sixth grade and above. Students prepare a project on the annual theme which this year is “Debate & Diplomacy: Successes, Failures, Consequences.” The great thing about NHD is the flexibility in the ways you can compete. Your submission can be a paper, exhibit, documentary, website, or performance.  Students can enter as individuals or as a group of up to five students except for the paper category.

My son has been competing in NHD for the last three years and I can tell you homeschoolers are welcomed. Visit www.nhd.org for more information on possible topics and competition rules. You can email me any questions you have about the competition. If there is enough interest, I will hold a general information session or if you have a homeschool group, I will come and discuss the competition. Please email at mskretzschmar@gmail.com if you are interested.
