San Antonio Home Education Resources and Opportunities (HERO) has been active in serving San Antonio Homeschoolers for the past four years. During this time we have hosted Homeschool Information Sessions at local libraries and bookstores. We have sponsored a workshop on Dual Credit for Homeschoolers and on How to Teach Art. We have produced the area's first comprehensive directory of homeschool organizations and resources. We have presented homeschooling options to the Education Alternative Showcase and the Texas Association of Gifted and Talented. We have established a homeschool band for both new and experienced musicians. We have hosted the Geo Bee, sponsored teams for Odyssey of the Mind, and provided the opportunity for homeschoolers to compete in the Private School Interscholastic Association. We sponsor "Dinner With…" evenings to provide seminar opportunities to the homeschool community. We have received our 501c3 status for the IRS and our Roundup has nearly doubled in size over the past two years.

We are committed to providing access to opportunities and resources for home educators of all races, religions, philosophies, and education styles to expand and improve their home education experience. We strive to raise awareness of home education as an alternative educational choice in the San Antonio area. Our goal is to increase positive interactions between homeschoolers and the San Antonio metro area community to foster a supportive and understanding atmosphere for home education.
